Biography:

Mechelle Thomas is a Black Social Worker of Caribbean descent.  As a holistic Social Worker, I place a strong emphasis on the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual dimensions of health and wellness.  I work within an inclusive, trauma-informed, anti-racist, anti-oppressive framework that incorporates principles of intersectionality. Moreover, I practice from a culturally relevant, client-centred, strength-based, perspective, centred on a non-judgemental, collaborative approach. With compassion, honesty, warmth, and presence, I hope to hold space for clients to use their innate curiosity and introspection to address the root causes of their challenges, strengthen relationships, and build meaningful social connections.

I have over 13 years experience as a Registered Nurse (RN), specializing in prenatal, postnatal and parenting education; child development; attachment; and parent-child/family relationships.  I recently completed a Master of Social Work degree at University of Toronto, specializing in Indigenous Trauma and Resiliency.  I am in the process of membership approval with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers.

I provide counselling and psychotherapy to individuals, families.  I also provide maternal mental health services to address perinatal mood disorders during prenatal and postnatal period; and transition to parenting.
